What is stroke?

(cars, trucks, generators) internal combustion engine Hyundai Motor and industrial use in mostly four-stroke cycle. By Nicholas middot; Otto invented in 1876, so called Otto cycle. Wankel engine has four similar period, but did not use the stroke. A cycle consists of four strokes, or linear motion of the piston in the cylinder in a single direction:

1. The intake air (intake) stroke
2. compression stroke
3. work (firing) stroke
4. the exhaust stroke

is in the top dead center cycle begins, i.e. the piston is in its uppermost position. When the first piston during its movement downward (intake stroke), the fuel and air mixture into the cylinder through one or more valves. Intake valve closing, followed by compression of the compression stroke of this mixed gas (the compression stroke).

Thus when the mixed gas is ignited near the apex of the compression stroke spark plug. Thrust generated by the combustion air explosion forces the piston down to do the third movement (the power stroke). The fourth is the last stroke is the exhaust stroke, combustion gas is discharged through the cylinder through an exhaust valve.

is a camshaft colloquially called a cam cylinder with several oval protrusion through its movement driving the valve motion. When the camshaft rotates, the cam pushes on the valve (often called the intermediate member by a tappet) so as to open at the appropriate time. The valve is spring-loaded, when the cam protrusions are not facing the valve when it is closed. Each valve is opened only once a cycle, that is, two crankshaft revolutions camshaft revolution. The above illustrates a dual overhead camshaft engine.

efficient than two four-stroke engine cycle is much higher. But it needs quite a lot of moveable parts as well as higher manufacturing technology.
